September 1, 2015

To: Principals and Administrators of the Dale County School System

From: Donny Bynum, Superintendent of Education

RE: Use of Tobacco and Tobacco-Related Products

Due to recent events and occurrences in the Dale County School System, I will be recommending to the Dale County Board of Education that Board Policy 3.45 be amended to include a prohibition on electronic cigarettes and electronic cigarette-related products.

Until such time as the Board of Education considers and provides a disposition on my recommendation, pursuant to Board Policy 3.22, I hereby issue this Administrative Directive prohibiting the use of all tobacco products, tobacco-related products, and prohibiting the use of electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizers, and other electronic nicotine delivery systems to include any oral device that provides vapor of liquid nicotine, lobelia and/or other similar substance, and the use or inhalation of which simulates smoking. These products shall be prohibited in or on any school-owned facility, any school grounds, in any system-owned vehicles, and during any school-sponsored activities.

This Administrative Directive shall apply to all students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests of the Dale County School System.
Any and all violations of this Administrative Directive shall be considered violations of Board Policy 3.45 and shall be disposed of as proscribed in the Student Code of Conduct and employee handbooks.

All Principals and Administrators are directed to post this Administrative Directive in a central location at their schools and at all athletic facilities, and are directed to ensure that students have knowledge of its contents. Further, each Principal is directed to have their respective school’s webmaster post a copy of this Administrative Directive on the school’s webpage. In addition, the Dale County School System Technology Director is hereby directed to post a copy of this Administrative Directive on the Dale County School System website.
